Training Methods

At Pluto & Co. my mission is to help you build a clear, reliable, and rewarding relationship with your dog. Training is a craft, and I am on a continuous journey to sharpen my skills and work toward mastery.

I am NePoPo® Gold certified, a system I have studied in Belgium under Hans Verbruggen, and that is developed by World-class trainers Bart and Michael Bellon.

I am also currently enrolled in the STSK9 MVP program by Nino Drowaert, a world-renowned trainer and former police K9 handler. By learning directly from some of the most accomplished trainers in the world, I can pass on the same clarity and structure to you and your dog.

What is NePoPo®?

NePoPo® stands for Negative Positive Positive. In simple terms, it means the dog learns that their actions have meaning. In simple terms, the system could be described as a “hot & Cold” game we play with the dog to get them to, and love, the desired behavioural outcome.

The goal is clarity, fairness, and reliability. This system has been proven at the highest level of dog training including military and police K9s as well as sport champions. Yet the same principles apply to everyday pet dogs. It creates motivation, structure, and a dog that genuinely wants to work with you.

The STSK9 MVP Program

Alongside NePoPo®, I am studying under Nino Drowaert’s MVP program, which emphasizes three pillars of high-level obedience:

Object focus: teaching the dog to channel drive into a specific target or task.

Drive: developing and balancing food, toy, and prey drive to build motivation.

Movement and energy: harnessing the dog’s natural enthusiasm and turning it into powerful, precise obedience.

This approach produces not only sport-level performance but also pet dogs that are engaged, fulfilled, and under control in real life.

Reward at the Foundation

Everything begins with rewards. Dogs learn that good decisions earn what they want most such as food, play, or praise. This builds drive, enthusiasm, and a dog that actively chooses to work with you. While I am open to training tools like prongs or e-collars, they are not part of my standard approach with most clients. My focus is on helping owners achieve results through engagement, clarity, and bringing energy to every interaction.

However, some owners arrive already using these tools. In those cases, I can provide honest advice to ensure they are used fairly, with the long-term goal of relying less on tools and more on relationship and clarity.

Why This Matters for You

Focused and responsive dogs

Your dog learns to stay engaged with you, even around distractions, building real-world reliability and trust.

Clear two-way communication

Through markers and rewards, you’ll develop a shared language that makes training smoother and more enjoyable for both of you.

Confident handling anywhere

Gain the skills and structure to guide your dog calmly and effectively in any environment — from home walks to busy public spaces.

Freedom is Earned Through Structure

Training success depends on the work done between sessions.
